I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas

I saw my first snow of the winter this weekend. We spent the weekend in Glorieta, NM with several young couples. The weekend was great. We had a great time of fellowship together. On Sunday morning, as we were waking up, we were greeted with a beautiful surprise out the window. HUGE snowflakes were falling thick and fast. Nothing was sticking to the ground, but it was still wonderful. The snow fell for an hour and a half or so, and then the sun started to come out and dry the ground. It just made my day to get to see snow. We don’t get much of it here in Plainview, so it was a treat.

God truly does bless us on a daily basis. I love it when I recognize that He is working in the little things we see all around us. An early snow, a kiss on the cheek, an e-mail from an old friend, a new song on the radio, an evening free to relax, etc…God blesses us continually, but we don’t often stop to notice. You know that old saying “Stop and smell the roses”, I would challenge you to stop and see God’s blessings. If you keep your eyes open, God will show you something amazing.

Almost Thanksgiving?!?

So...I was told I needed to post something on here. This caused me to realize that I haven't posted in several months. I am not a good blogger. I read other peoples blogs on a daily basis, and even take the time to comment on them. Somehow I can't seem to find the time or energy to think up something new to blog about. My life isn't nearly interesting enough to just talk about my day. (I got up, cleaned myself, ate, worked, ate again, went home, ate again, watched some tv, played some x-box, talked to my wife, read a book, went to sleep).

However, I have been thinking about time lately. There's a nice tree outside my office window that I've been watching the last several weeks. The beginning of last week, this tree had turned a beautiful golden color. It was wonderful. Now, 10 days later, it's almost bare. There are maybe 150-200 leaves on this rather large tree just barely hanging on. The month of October is over now by several days, and I have hardly stopped long enough to notice. Soon Thanksgiving will be here and then Christmas, and then 2006 will be over.

When I look back I have to wonder...what have I done with this year? Am I any closer to where God wants me to be? Have I had any impact on the people around me? Have I made even the slightest difference in a single life? or, have I simply lived the day to day and missed opportunities to minister, bless, and encourage? So often I get to the end of the day and can't remember what I did besides eat, work and sleep.

Lord change our outlooks. Help us to look beyond ourselves and our feeble existince to what You have prepared for us each day. Help us to look up and see the world around us. Time is slipping by faster and faster each day, and if we're not careful, we'll get to the end of our lives feeling like we can't remember doing anything of worth. Lord help us to make our lives worth more than the life of living for ourselves.

Summers Almost Over

Hello to anyone who happens to read my posts. It's been many moons since I've even thought about posting something on here. Please forgive my long lapse in writing anything. I don't think I have much to write about right now even. I just thought I'd update for anyone who happens to subscribe so that ya'll would know that I'm not dead.

So...news in the life of Jeremy...Kathy's birthday is today, so we're going to Lubbock right after lunch to go shopping and hang out. We're going to get dressed up super nice and go eat and just enjoy being together and goofing off. Then we'll stay in a hotel instead of coming home. Fun. Fun. Fun.

My Sister Bethany is coming to Wayland in the Fall. WooHoo. It's going to be fun having three Harris children in Plainview at the same time. At least until Josh and Laura Graduate.

Lastly (since I didn't have anything important to say), Please be in prayer for kathy and I right now. I am looking into a ministry job right now and if it all works out I'll be changing jobs. I'm asking that you would pray for Gods will to be done. I know that what will happen anyway, but I want to be able to hear it when He speaks. Thanks,

P.S. Starwars Battlefront 2 is one of the coolest games I've ever played for X-Box. Have a great day.

Not Really a Rebel...

Typically, I am not a rebel. I don't raise up in arms against things. I am more of a quiet revolutionist. I try to change the world by simply living the way the Bible calls us to live.

Last week I did come across something that made me want to cry "Outrage". A wayland student posted signs around campus stating that it was against the rules to play Frisbee Golf. Not only was it against the rules, but anyone caught playing would be fined $100. I was outraged. I couldn't belive that Wayland could do something so stupid. (I love Wayland, and defend her against lots of bad mouthing, but this was too much). I was ready to march down to Dean Tipton's office as a Wayland staff member and demand the student's rights to carry a frisbee around campus and throw it at trees. I was incensed. Fortunately, before I could go and make a fool of myself, I asked one of my student workers what was going on and he told me it wasn't real.

In actuality, it was a project for the religion department. The student who had posted the signs in the first place ended up getting a petition with 63 signatures in like an hour. The next day in place of the flyers about Frisbee golf, there were signs with a hypothetical question on it. Would the 63 people who signed the petition for Frisbee golf have fought this hard and fast if someone had taken away God from our school? (this is a rough paraphrase).

It was a very thought provoking project. I don't know if I'm ready to take up a more extreme version of revolution. I am willing to take a more extreme stand on something that doesn't really matter, like frisbee golf. When it comes to matters of Faith, I still think that living the life we are called to is as much of or more of a witness that marching around with a picket/boycott sign. If we all lived the life we should, would there really be a need to picket an abortion clinic?..badmouth homosexuals?...write off goths, punks, losers, and anyone else that doesn't fit in our nice little niche of good Christians? If we simply showed love to all people, lived like we were trying to be a true reflection of Christ in every aspect of our lives, wouldn't this be a better use of our time and lives? What do you think? I really don't have all of this figured out, so I'd love to hear some feedback from my ranting. Have a great day.

The Bard

The room was dimly lit. The only source of light coming from the roaring fire in the hearth. A crowd had gathered this evening, seeking food and companionship and an escape from the winter chill. It was almost impossible to have a conversation in the room because of all the other conversations that were already going on. The serving girls roamed the room refilling mugs and plates, and avoiding the wayward hands of the younger men in the room. An almost unnatural silence enveloped the room the moment the old man in the corner stood and walked towards the fire. All eyes stared as he made his way to the center of the room. The grey hair on his head and the knowledge hidden in his eyes betrayed his age dispite the fact that he walked straight and tall and strong. He carried a harp in the crook of his arm, and as the crowd grew silent he started to strum. The music filled the room and even the innkeeper and serving girls stopped their hustle and bustle. The people in the room didn't seem to notice their lack of food and drink. Then the old man started to speak.

"Tonight I will tell you the tale..."

Wouldn't that be cool? I'd love to go somewhere and listen to someone who knew how to tell stories. Tales of people and places that you've never heard of and you don't even care that these people and places might not exist. Forget TV and Movies. I think this would be awesome.
